A GROUP of primary school children donned hard hats and high visibility vests to
visit a new homes development next to their school to help bring a school
project to life.
The 24 six-to-eight-year-olds from Bishop William Ward School in Great Horkseley
were yesterday (Wednesday July 11) given a tour around The
Grove, a new development being built by Mersea Homes.
Site Manager, Neil Kendrick, had earlier visited the school when he fielded a
host of questions from the youngsters about what is involved in building a new
housing development.
Teacher Gill Stevens said: “The children are working on a project about changes
to their local environment. Normally in a village such as this, there isn’t an
awful lot of change taking place but with The Grove right on our doorstep, this
was a perfect opportunity for the youngsters to learn more about the changes
taking place.
“Neil was very good and asked us if we would like to visit the site so the
children could see at first hand what is involved in building a new development.
This sort of experience is invaluable because it brings school-work to life.”
Neil said: “A new homes development impacts on many aspects of local life and it
was obvious from the many questions the children were asking that they were
fascinated by what is happening.”
